If you’ve tried to download a bunch of large files at once with Internet Explorer 7, you might have noticed that it seems to freeze after you have a couple downloading already. By default, Internet Explorer only allows 2 downloads from any one server at the same time. This is why your third download will usually just sit there and then pop up with the download box once one of the other downloads finishes.
The good news is that this max download limit can be easily increased with a very simple registry edit. I would caution that you don’t want too many going at once or you may risk getting banned from the web server or crashing Windows. Typically you can increase the limit to between 5 and 10 downloads without any major issues. Here’s how:
- Go to your start menu type in Regedit.
- Inside the Registry Editor, navigate to the following folder: HKEY_CURRENT_USER –> Software –> Microsoft Windows –> CurrentVersion –> Internet Settings
- Right-click on the setting for MaxConnectionsPerServer and choose Modify. Enter a number greater than 2.
- Modify the value for MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server to a number greater than 2 also.
- Reboot your system and you’re good to go!
