Ashampoo has been making all kinds of software utilities for years now, but they have always been well known for their Windows optimization software. Just last month, the company released its newest utility in the lineup, Powerup 3. Ashampoo is marketing Powerup3 as the answer to endless hours spent learning how to configure and maintain Windows XP and Vista. The question is, can Powerup3 really keep your Windows system running at peak performance?
Past users of the Powerup series will immediately notice the software’s updated look. The program sports a very nice and refined interface that does a good job of logically organizing PC settings, strong performance, and extensive customization options into one package. In addition to the new look, several new features were added to Powerup3 including automatic backups for restoring previous configurations and a Risk Level Monitor that displays the potential dangers of certain tweaks.
It feels like PowerUp 3 comes packed with hundreds of Windows tweaks built in, but thankfully they are well organized and easy to use. For those that prefer not to get into each and every technical tweak available, there is a Profiles option that allows you to set your PC for performance, security, or a balance of the two. For more advanced users, however, there is also the option to fine tune your system right down to the last tiny option.
I guess the biggest downside with Ashampoo PowerUp 3 is that it is not freeware. Then again, who would expect software that is this advanced to be free? There is a free 10-day trial which can be extended into a full 40-day trial by registering for a free Ashampoo account. This probably isn’t the best program for novice users, but intermediate and advanced Windows users will fall in love with the ease of use and breadth of options available. Either way, give it a try and have some fun tweaking your Windows PC.
